PCG for Bullet Hells, Mario & Mario with Ahmed Khalifa

In this third epsiode of NPC – the new live interview series hosted on the AI and Games YouTube channel – Tommy is joined by Ahmed Khalifa, who at the time of publication is in the process of writing up his PhD thesis on procedural content generation in video games at New York University. Ahmed holds a diverse collection of research under his name. Including the likes of general intelligence for game playing agents, optimised tree-search for game play as well as a variety of projects in procedural content generation. In this interview we walk through some of the highlights of their research, including procedurally generating ‘Bullet Hell’ games and designing levels for Super Mario Bros. that aim to provide tutorials for specific gameplay mechanics.
